Ear Update: Yesterday started out a bit nerve racking. I went to have a hearing test and see my Otolaryngologist a.k.a ENT…. Unfortunately I have profound hearing loss in my left ear. I thought it could be due to the Cisplatin chemo that I took, but that was ruled out because hearing loss due to chemo is usually bilateral. (I only have it in the one ear..) My hearing loss could be due to a couple of things. It could have been induced my something viral( I haven’t been sick) or it could be a growth that is damaging the hearing nerve. Dr. Goldstein advised that we could try an experimental procedure to try to recoup the hearing. He told me that there is a window of 3 weeks from the day of hearing loss to try this procedure and have it work.(yesterday was the last day of two weeks so we have one week to try this) The procedure involves an intratympanic injection of prednisone..(laymen’s term: shot through the ear drum into the ear..ouch!) and oral prednisone for 10 days. I had my first injection yesterday…it was not pleasant. I am also going to do an MRI next Thursday to rule out any growths or tumors in the ear that may be on the hearing nerves. I will update more on the hearing saga next Friday when I see the ENT for the results of my MRI. Please pray for a positive outcome. On a brighter note…I had the most WONDERFUL time at my birthday party that my beautiful sister-in-law and husband threw for me. Good food, great drinks, dancing and awesome company is the best way to celebrate life. It was heartwarming to have so many of my friends and family there showing me so much love and celebrating my life with me. In my toast, I meant what I said, when you are faced with a trial, tragedy, tribulation or sickness you have two ways of looking at it. It can be viewed as either a punishment or a blessing. Well my sickness has been a blessing. It has brought my family closer, it has made me stronger, it has shown me the love of true friends and it has shown me that your future is in the hands of God and we have to embrace the course that he has set for us. I am truly blessed. Thank each of you that were with me last night for celebrating life…It is OUR time…Live it as if each day were your last…I am! Lastly as a reminder for now: If you are going to talk to me, stand on my right side. If you are going to talk about me, stand on my left! ;) God is great and Life is good!
