Holding Hands is still looking for one more student. We need a boy, between the ages of 3 and 4. Nothing against girls, but just seeking some gender balance in our class! We are halfway through out first year. Weve learned about the following topics: Kwaanza, Winter Solstice, Christmas, Hanukkah, Bugs, Weather, Oceans, Habitats, Shapes, Autumn, Recycling, Gardening, Teeth, Safety, Family, Friendship, Pets, Feelings, Community Helpers, Homes and a few others. When I plan these thematic lessons, its not always with great emphasis on facts but rather the experience of learning. Children love to explore new information. I tie these themes into the weekly sensory bin, Thursday craft time, a thematic book during each circle time and when we use modeling materials, I enjoy planning to make objects that can be role played with. Next week well make snowmen with clay and a winter scene as part of our winter theme. Weve just about wrapped up learning each letter of the alphabet and have had endless fun with numbers. Next week well crack open eggs to discover the number on the yolk and see who has the matching plate. Each child will get to be a chef that day! While the curriculum is going well, the real rhythm of the day is through song, art, life skills, shared meals, story time, cooperative games and imaginative play. Weve been enjoying cooking, wet felting, water painting, beeswax play, seasonal verses and dancing. Weve recently added a peace rug with a peace wand where children learn to communicate through conflict and a tootles jar to replace tattling habits. Tootle time is a time where children say something they appreciate about another friend. When the jar is full of tootle buttons, well have a Tootle party! Needless to say, were having a fantastic year. Im looking forward to the second half. Thanks for following the page and supporting our preschool!
