Earlier this week, I eluded that you would be hear more about the hampshire boar Point Proven shortly, here is an example why: The following is Jim Bernard & Familys hampshire boar entry for the Indiana State Fair, a Point Proven x The One & Only. This boar is an example of what Point Proven has produced in limited use. Those of you who are hampshire enthusiasts and fans of true meat hogs may want to read the following. It’s no secret to Hampshire enthusiasts that we still have an influx of hogs that study to be too narrow based, too flat ribbed, and are devoid of the trait the breed has long been noted for—MUSCLE. Here is the outlier we have been looking for! Point Proven is a stout skulled, wide-eyed boar that drives at you square and expansive from blade-to-knee-to-ground, and from there back opens into a huge, square top with a shapely groove progressing into a massively square hip and a powerful stifle. He excels throughout his center skeleton, being bold sprung and carrying this girth back through his rear rib and flank. Point Proven’s ability to combine this mass with basic build is unique. From the side not only is he a tight eared, tall fronted boar that brings forth the much needed show ring look and extension, but when set in motion, he covers the surface with ease, planting and driving off a big foot with an ideal toe spread . This one is rugged in his bonework, yet unlike so many Hampshire boars available today, Point Proven remains clean in his joints and within his skeleton off of both ends. Perhaps even more inimitable is his pedigree. First and foremost, his sire certainly needs no introduction to those who have been invested in following this breed over the past year. However, the genetics on his dam’s side certainly deserves some discussion. Prince Vaun is a descendent of the original Vaun boar, a 1991 model, and is a uniquely linebred boar containing Newlin, Earnhart, Walridge, and Canadian genetics (bloodlines all known for MUSCLE). Point Proven’s granddam resides in the Brown herd (Easy Rider x Wide Belt) and is one of their most highly regarded females, tying back into one of the Newlin firms foundation sows. Moreover, further evaluation of this pedigree turns up greats such as The Ritz, 401K, Impact, Premier John, MR HWWS 9-2, Masterpiece, Score, The Belt, Blockbuster, and Neat: all highly influential Hampshire sires. Whether your primary focus is to produce Hampshire barrows that can hang, or to produce Hampshire females backed by generations of productivity that can make the following generations better, Point Proven needs to be on your short list. Study the picture and the study the pedigree, this one is backed with genetics that have proven to produce the aforementioned!
