Earlier this week I made the comment about reversing the switch to harm Holts reputation (my opinion of course) and I was lambasted for worrying about the reputation of the HPS. This is why I said it: I visit schools for my job and talk to seniors about after graduation choices etc. Since I have 2 17-year olds in the house I use them as an example - one definitely going to college/university and one that may do some college but is more of a trades person (he loves graphic arts). Usually after the kids have left, I talk to the counselors a little bit more - get more in depth about programs, scholarships etc and 9 times out of 10 - the question gets asked what school district am I in. The comments that come after I say Holt......well, lets just say whats being said on this board and other comments in social media and the paper have far reaching affects. Usually I hear Im sorry or boy, it must be tough with whats going on there. Now, as a parent - how do you think that makes me feel? A ruined reputation has the ability to affect Holt for YEARS. Think of it this way - if we cant at least quit being so nasty towards each other and come together has a community to fix these issues, people are not going to want to send their kids to Holt for SOC. Or people wont buy homes inside the district. When that happens, the values go down, tax income goes down, school enrollment goes down.......I can imagine everyone can see where Im going with that. Yes, our kids/students are the top priority, but everyone should also be conscious of what is said and done so Holts reputation does not fall so far that we suffer for it..............for years to come.
