Earlier today I realized Willie Robertson is the Anti-Kevin Smith. One is from the suburbs of a major city. The masses became aware of him as a result of his growing his skill set in an art form that he employs as one of his expressions. At its most sophomoric there was still a thread of his world view in his work. He is an ordinary guy who through his work has helped a lot of people come into their own professionally, he has consistently spoke for the rights of other ordinary people and challenged the religious notions that he was raised with. One weapon in his arsenal is comedy, but its through the jokes that he has become respected. The other is from a small town. He worked with his family to build a business on the backs of slaughtered ducks. He then used television (and pretty much any piece of merchandise he could find a way to put a logo on) to put his cash flow into overdrive. A successful business man who was willing to become (and lead his family into being) caricature(s) in the pursuit of the dollar. Even to the point of prostituting his religious views. Views he and his kin hid behind when one got in trouble for being a bigot. Money that bought them the kind of clout it takes to convince a major corporation to ignore the demands of their viewers.
