Earlier tonight, a Warren County jury found Austin Myers guilty as charged on all nine counts and specifications, including aggravated murder with accompanying capital specifications. The jury will consider the death penalty starting Monday. Although congratulations seem inappropriate in a situation like this, special acknowledgments for a job very well done go out to the numerous individuals who were involved in this case, including lead detectives Mike Wyatt and Paul Barger, Sgt. Brian Hounshell, and Lt. Eric Johnson-- all of the Warren County Sheriffs Office. Also, Chief Assistant Prosecutor John Arnold and Assistant Prosecutor Travis Vieux, who tried the case with me. Assistant Prosecutors Carrie Heisele and Steve Knippen, who did all the behind the scenes work. Victim Services Director Jessi Flint and Coordinator Melissa Kennard, who coordinated the mass of witnesses called to testify at trial. Also, Legal Assistant Kathy Fink, who pretty much did everything else. And I know I have certainly left folks out. Finally, my thoughts tonight are with Mark & Sandy Cates and the family and friends of Justin Back, a young man destined to do great things, but whose life was senselessly stolen from him by two individuals who showed no regard for human life. We never knew each other in life, but over the past eight months, he has touched so many of us in ways that he and his family could never have imagined. wcpo/news/local-news/verdict-reached-in-waynesville-high-school-students-killing
