Early #throwbackthursday entry- Heres my novice photos of Imbayah Festival in May 2008. Please absolve the quality and composition. A little backstory, Im supposed to travel with a fellow photographer but ended up going solo, little did I know, this festival inspired me to see Banaues remote villages which later paved the foundation of BlackPencilProject. During the Banawor Trek in Bocos, I observed that children were so excited to meet new friends, smiling and waving (welcoming) at you even where youre mountains apart. I asked one of the guides behind me if its okay to give candies and I was told, as much as possible, they discourage guests/ tourists to give anything specifically cash to kids to prevent them from developing the habit of asking or expecting gifts. How about pencils? I asked. The guide smiled at me as he led me to the top most part of pyramidal cluster of Banaue Rice Terraces. Two months after the festival, I went to see Cambulo and Batad with photographer friends, and Black Pencil Project was born. #volunTourism #photosafari #penciltrek #penciltours
