Earth Guardians 3 mins · Their is hope! I met Lovely Dillion an awesome lady with roots from India on a phone call almost a year ago. She heard about my work and contacted me to ask if I would do the opening keynote for the American Evaluation Association’s 2014 Annual Conference that she is co-chair of. She told me AEA is organization with almost 8,000 members and every year they have a conference with over 2,000 attendees. This year’s conference was in Denver and its theme is: Visionary Evaluation for a Sustainable, Equitable Future. Many of the attendees were people who work in the field of evaluating things like our educational systems and use that data to show what is working in these systems and to help improve them. What Lovely, Matt, Bev and there team did is brought in a whole different perspective on evaluating that many of these people may have never considered. It was to evaluate from a perspective of looking at the earth as a whole system, how it is all connected, how we are not separate and how they can evaluate from a different mindset to create systems that are going to support leaving a healthy, just sustainable world for future generations. They started the session with a guided meditation which they were sure many of the people had never done, to visualize the world they want to create and leave for future generations. It was an amazing process! They brought me in to speak and to help connect the dots through my work that we must consider everything we are doing from our personal impact on the planet, to evaluating systems from a limited perspective and how it is impacting the planet. It was incredible to shine a little light on a broader perspective of whole systems thinking and how by realizing we are all connected we can make better evaluations by looking at how it is going to impact the future we all want to create, which I believe is a healthy, healed world. It gave me hope to be a part of it! We are crossing barriers in many different worlds as people are realizing we must change the fundemental beliefs and ways we are doing things to save the Earth and protect our future! https://youtube/watch?v=wE5F4j0B3zU&feature=youtu.be
