Earth moves on 20,000 jobs target - From Wyatt Roy MP, Member for Longman After working hard to overcome years of inaction, civil works have begun at North East Business Park in preparation for 1200 home sites at the master-planned community near Caboolture River. Meantime, the 170ha business park component has been approved and gone to market. When complete, NEBP will contain schools, shops, restaurants and 420ha of open space featuring walking trails and viewing platforms to the river. I’ve been a long-time supporter of this crucial local development which will revitalise our region. With more than 20,000 jobs to be created in the construction and operational phases, already some outstanding local businesses are reaping the benefits. For example, the project’s legal firm Lember and Williams and electrical designer Lectel are from Caboolture. They say $1 spent locally multiplies out to about $7 in a local economy, says Michelle Lember. Weve already put on an extra staff member to help with the projects conveyancing work. We source all our office supplies locally, so producing contracts means were purchasing more paper and more ink. Anything that boosts the economy helps deal with youth unemployment and its consequences. And anything that can keep people who are educated and live locally, rather than them moving away, is also a good thing. Lectel owner Phil Perkins says he has employed two extra people after winning the tender to design the projects electrical network, including subterranean power and street lighting. North East Business Park has always wanted to use local businesses, Phil says. Thats excellent for us and theres so much as far as upcoming works for the local economy in the building of houses and business accommodations. The recreational facilities are going to be awesome.
