EarthSky’s meteor shower guide for 2013 2013 Quadrantid meteor by Susan Jensen The weekend of August 9-11, 2013 is a wonderful time to watch for meteors! Watch the Meteor Showers tonite! What a great year for the Perseids! The peak itself – late evening on August 11 until dawn on August 12 – should feature the most meteors. That should be true no matter where you are on Earth. Just remember, there are really two meteor showers going on. One is the Delta Aquarid shower, which has a nominal peak in late July but actually rambles along pretty steadily from late July through mid-August. The other is the famous Perseid meteor shower, which always peaks around August 11-13. Both of these showers are best between midnight and dawn. This year, the moon is out of the sky when the most meteors will be flying. For best results, find a dark location, and watch for at least an hour, or more. Have fun!
