Easier Access to Awe-Inspiring Views at Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve The ridgeline of Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve will soon be much more accessible, thanks to a new trailhead and vehicle and equestrian staging area off Sierra Road near the summit that will open to the public later this month. A staging area will accommodate 22 vehicles including 2 horse trailers, allowing easier access to this beloved regional gem with stunning views of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Hamilton Range, and Santa Clara Valley. A short new stretch of the Kestral Trail will be officially dedicated as Ridge Trail, and a .6 mile section of the Sierra Vista Trail (dedicated as Ridge Trail in 2011) will also be upgraded to allow equestrians. Additionally, a new 1 mile Aquila Loop Trail will open north of Sierra Road (not yet part of the official Ridge Trail route) The opening celebration on August 23 is already at capacity so, unless you’ve already registered, you can visit the new staging area and trails on or after August 24.
