East Ridge Care 4 Kids is a Cooperative Ministry which involves a number of area churches. They serve more than 100 children who reside at the Superior Creek Lodge in East Ridge. * Before school begins every student is supplied with backpacks, and all required school supplies along with two school uniforms. Other clothing is provided as needed. * Every Tuesday, immediately following school, church vans pick up the children and bring them to East Ridge United Methodist Church where they are divided up according to grade, and then assigned at least two tutors. While tutoring is taking place, volunteers cook a nutritious dinner for the children (many of whom are severely underfed). For the 2013-2014 school year 555 meals were prepared. * Following dinner, the children partake in games, crafts and other special activities. A couple of very special activities planned for the coming year include having the Chattanooga Zoo bring animals for the children to pet and learn about and The Tennessee Aquarium traveling to the church with animals and instruction. * Before the children are dropped back off at the hotel, they are provided with food bags, clothing and toys. * During the summer, East Ridge Cares 4 Kids prepares and delivers bagged lunches to the children at the Lodge. Included in these bags is sun screen and other necessities. Summer clothing is also provided. * In addition, every child is encouraged and invited to spend at least a week at Camp Lookout. East Ridge Cares 4 Kids pays all the expenses and also provides sleeping bags, bathing suits, sneakers, pillows, and anything else the children require in order to have the best experience possible. * When the winter months arrive, East Ridge Cares 4 Kids purchase brand new winter coats, hats, and gloves for every child. * When emergency situations arise, East Ridge Cares 4 Kids do the best we can to meet the needs of every child. * East Ridge Cares 4 Kids has been able to help six families move out of the Lodge and into permanent housing. When this occurs we celebrate and provide the needed furniture, and other items which go into beginning life anew.
