East Taunton Teen Prepares for Mission Trip to Haiti Cory Fratus of East Taunton will be leaving for Haiti on February 12 for a mission trip. Prior to the mission, Cory is collecting supplies to help the people of Port-au-Prince. Haiti has thousands of street children whose average age is ten years old. Street children live in extremely vulnerable conditions. They are at risk of infection, addiction, prostitution, child slavery and organ trafficking. In order to help save these children from exploitation and bad treatment, a system of poorly resourced orphanages was set up to save the children from the streets. Sadly, the children age out of this program at sixteen. The purpose of the mission is to provide Christian teaching, pastoral care and material comfort to the underserved children in orphanages and care facilities. Cory graduated from Apponequet Regional High School in 2013 and attends Bristol Community College. He is also a member of the East Freetown Congregational-Christian Church. Cory was quoted saying that he, Is excited for people to come together to help people. Cory is the son of Linda Fratus of East Taunton and the late David Fratus of Lakeville. During the weeks leading to the mission, Cory will be packing cans of tuna fish, t-shirts, flip flops, educational supplies, frisbees, diapers and toiletries. For monetary donations, checks can be made out to EFCCC with Haiti Mission written in the memo. The deadline for donations is February 1. Drop off sites are: The Burt Wood School of Performing Arts located at 133 Center Street in Middleboro between the hours of 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Saturday mornings. The East Freetown Congregational-Christian Church located at 1 Washburn Street in East Freetown and by calling Cory Fratus and his mother Linda at 508-930-8462.
