Easy Tips for Creating A New Look for Your Home You can create a new look simply by reworking your own home accessories. Explore some new ideas and discover how easy it can be to transform or refresh your space. Take a good look around your house. Look at all your accessories such as art work, decorative pillows, vases, lamps and all those nick-knacks. Ask yourself, “Which pieces still work for me?” Take all your accessories and display them in one room. The dining room can be the perfect spot. “Go shopping” -through your own things! Recycle those unwanted items to a local charity. Then re-decorate each room of your home, you’ll soon figure out where you need to add a new piece to complete or update a room. A new lamp and toss pillows are usually my first and many times the only new items needed. To blend your accessories with style, group by color, subject or material. Like porcelain with porcelain or if you have a dozen vases, they have more impact if they’re all the in the same color family then if they are assorted. Not sure which color to choose for pillows and other accessories? Take a color cue from a favorite painting or fabric in your room. If your art has a lot of blues and smaller amounts of light brown and orange accents, go for various shades of brown and/or oranges. Or tie accessories together, such as a toss pillow and a lamp base, by choosing the same color. Remember, color can be repeated to make a statement. Don’t forget that interior hardware can be a decorative accessory. Just changing drawer pulls or knobs can add a whole new style or depth to furniture and cabinetry.
