Eat fish to stop feeling SAD: Affected by seasonal affective - TopicsExpress

Eat fish to stop feeling SAD: Affected by seasonal affective disorder? Perhaps you’re having difficulty waking up in the morning, with a tendency to overeat (especially a craving for carbohydrates), along with a lack of energy, difficulty concentrating or completing tasks, and a general desire to pull the curtains shut and take to your duvet? Eat like they do in Iceland, to cure SADness! Well, you’re not alone if so! Some scientists believe that feelings of depression, pessimism – or simple sluggishness – during the autumn and winter are echoes of hibernation tendencies from our remote ancestors. And hibernation can certainly seem appealing at this time of year (much more appealing than, say, watching your kids kick a football round a muddy field). But in reality, of course, we have to force ourselves out of bed at some point, and into work and our usual life. Interestingly, while almost all the countries you might expect to have large numbers of SAD sufferers do – the UK and the dark Nordic countries, for example – Iceland is a rare exception. SAD levels are particularly low there. One theory is that it’s all down to the high levels of fish they eat in Iceland. We love fish here too, at Naturally Good Food. Indeed, we currently stock 28 different varieties of fish – one for every day of every dark, dank winter month. All our fish products come from Fish4Ever, which prides itself not only on the quality of its fish, but on its sustainable fishing methods. So if you are feeling a little sluggish, why not try adding a bit more fish to your diet? It’s got to be better than antidepressants…. Here are a few highlights from within that 28-strong range: French fish soup with salmon: perfect for an easy lunch. Mackerel in mustard and dill sauce: add some salad and potatoes and you have a burst of tinned sunshine on your plate. Razor clams in brine: because in the long winter evenings, a little novelty never goes amiss. Sardines: fantastic on toast. Click here to see our full selection of fish.
