Ebola: Ok, been purposefully staying out of the discussion, but here goes. The message I get from all Ive seen largely on FB (try to limit news watching) is that there are two camps. 1. Freak out/Hysteria. 2. Chill/Nothing to see here move along. Somewhere between the extremes is a valuable lesson. 1. There are no such things as Third World Diseases. HIV/AIDS has taught the world that what happens in Africa will spread in a global travel environment. 2. Pharmaceutical Companies have to value ALL human lives above profit. Why is there no vaccine for this virus? And why when it is only BEGINNING to affect First World Countries is there a sudden interest in treating this disease? 3. We are all our protectors. Not only with this disease but with all viruses. If you know you have it, then do your best not to pass it on. Boarding a plane, or going out for ribs, really?! Conclusion: The 21st Century by our advances is showing what we fail to understand politically and socially and economically--Separation is a myth. SIckness has no passport and knows no borders. There is NO such thing as Over There. And Profit motives cannot be the basis by which we understand death and diseases. All lives have value. My prayer for all of us is that we get it--the lesson, treat it--the virus, eradicate it, and learn from the message that is this dis-ease.
