Ebola. Scary, isnt it? The first two people with the Ebola virus - TopicsExpress

Ebola. Scary, isnt it? The first two people with the Ebola virus brought into this country were missionaries. Should we have left them in Africa? Donald Trump warned us at the time that we were bringing trouble. Do viruses respect borders? In a world of continuous global travel, can we really expect the Atlantic Ocean to protect us? Of course the politicians and the pundits say so--thats how they get votes and attention. If the world were only that large and that simple, we could change a lot of things. I hate to tell my age, but Im past 30 now. I remember the polio scare of the 1950s. People were frightened for their children and we heard a lot about the dreaded iron lung. Jonas Salk came up with a vaccine, and many were as afraid of the vaccine as they were of the polio. I remember the Hong Kong Flu epidemic of the late 60s. My fall semester at Lynchburg College in 1968 was cut short when schools and colleges were shut down in a spreading epidemic. I remember the HIV/AIDS scare of the 1980s. We knew little about the disease. It kept spreading. No borders. President Reagan was widely criticized for not doing something to stop the disease and death. The country still stands. It is sad that people have to get sick and die. Reality check. People get sick and die. Im not being fatalistic here, Im being realistic. Why are we so surprised by all this? I cant believe this is happening in America. Why not in America? What makes us any better than any other people? God so loved the world. Whether or not you are a Christian, would you take a moment to examine the words of Jesus, For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and their WILL be famines, pestilences and earthquakes in various places. (Matthew 24:7) Someday the Ebola scare will be a memory. And then, therell be something else. This is the way its always been and, according to Jesus, the way it will be. In the meantime, we should use the brain God gave us to take necessary precautions. We should also exercise our faith and trust God to see us through this, as He has seen us through so much before. Blessings.
