Ebola has orphaned thousands of children in West Africa, and - TopicsExpress

Ebola has orphaned thousands of children in West Africa, and relatives are terrified of taking them in for fear of infection. More than 4,000 children have lost one or both of their parents to the disease and in addition to mourning the loss of care givers, the children are feeling abandoned and stigmatized. I work closely with people in Liberia who are telling me that Ebola is turning a basic human reaction like comforting a sick child into a potential death sentence and the majority of children affected by Ebola are being left without appropriate care. We cannot, not, respond to a crisis of this nature and this scale in the usual ways, we need more courage, more creativity, and far, far more resources. I have set up an urgent response team to help, and I am asking each and every one of you to please do something. Take a moment to think of all the contacts that you have, your work place, your friends and family and see what you can do to send something, anything to Liberia. Please don’t think that you can’t make a difference, something as simple as a toothbrush, a bar of soap, a soft toy, a face cloth will be gratefully received as well as the huge quantities of anything!. Think outside of the box and send whatever you can. I will be posting details of where to send items to in Liberia as soon as I have them as I am setting up the logistics of getting donated goods to Liberia, warehouses, and rapid distribution of goods to where they are urgently needed. (Help in any of those departments would also be appreciated) Items needed: Food Rice Mealie Meal Tinned foodstuffs Sugar Tea Water Cold drinks Baby formula Hydration items Personal Comfort Items Bath soap Blankets Nappies Clothes Toothbrush Doll or soft toy Medical Chlorine Sanitisers Gloves Rubber boots Disinfectants Buckets Disinfectants for drinking water Inflatable tents Washing powder Tarpaulins Trash bags Body bags
