Ebola is a national crisis that affects every one of us. As various groups get involved in the fight to kick Ebola out of Liberia and the sub region, THINK is collaborating with members of the Child Protection Network of Liberia to plan and implement massive awareness campaign in communities where we are located and serve. The government of Liberia cannot do this alone. All of us have to join forces and do what we can. Making sure we are in line with the Social Mobilization Committee, we arranged for training before dispatching our teams and volunteers into communities that are vulnerable. Due to under staffing, the trainers did not reach to us today. However, we used the time to share experiences and those of us with Public Health backgrounds were able to guide the discussion and we developed a plan of action. Civil Society Organizations have the advantage of working directly in the communities with people. We interact with members of our communities on a daily basis and have gained their confidence and trust. Delivering the message of prevention and taking time to explain the seriousness of where we are as a people will have greater impact. Many people do not have a radio or TV so messages going out using electronic medium misses a large number of people so person to person information sharing is the way to go. Demonstration of how to prepare the chlorinated water for disinfection for different purposes is very important as well as the proper way to wash your hands. What is a State of Emergency? Two weeks after the pronouncement by the President, people do not know what it means. The importance of staying home and not going out to socialize during the period of the State of Emergency has to be explained and stressed. When people know the facts about Ebola, they will be able to share the right information to others and better comply with instructions given by the Ebola Task Force and the Ministry of Health and partners.
