Ebola patient in Bangor, Maine This patient stopped in my neighborhood today on his way to Atlanta, Emory Univ HOspital. Wasnt it Emory Univ Hosp that had the ongoing CRE outbreak and didnt control and/or disclose the outbreak for a year? Doesnt everyone, including this ebola infected doctor, have to clear Customs and Immigrations/Homeland Security checks? Are these officer trained to deal with this kind of threat? While the CDC does a great deal of research and work on infections, didnt they just recently discover deadly bacteria stored in glad bags? Is there one single hospital in the US, including Emory, that has 100% handwashing compliance? E Bola is a direct contact transmitted disease...so are many of the infections we have lost control of that are already rampant in the US. A lot of words meant to comfort all of us in the US about this Ebola infected patient/doc are being spoken, but I cant buy in to those comforting words. Yes, from my past experiences, I do have trust issues. I hope this doc, with help from Emory experts, can get the treatment he needs to survive, but Im not confident that this is not the beginning of a new and deadly infection in the US. We cant handle the ones we have now.
