Ecclesiastes 7 is a contrast of wisdom and folly much like we read - TopicsExpress

Ecclesiastes 7 is a contrast of wisdom and folly much like we read throughout Proverbs. Wisdom is best. Folly is fleeting - it leaves us in need. In verses 1-6 Solomon seems to be saying stay away from folly because the things of folly are so enticing that before you know it you have fallen. Over indulgence at a feast quickly leads to trouble. We should move with wisdom and consider pausing before proceeding when things look like they might turn us away from God. Matthew Henry writes: The laughter of a fool is soon gone, the end of his mirth is heaviness. Perhaps Solomon is sharing with the reader that we must guard ourselves from the missteps that folly brings. Laughter is good medicine but we must seek virtue rather than carelessness. Thoughts?
