Eco Tip of the Week - Brush Your Teeth a Little Greener Did you know that Americans throw away over a billion disposable toothbrushes each year? Here are a few tips to help you green your morning routine. Toothbrush – Invest in a lifetime brush. The Source toothbrush has a sturdy handle that is made of recycled dollar bills, flax or wood and a replaceable plastic head so less ends up in a landfill. Or opt for a Preserve toothbrush made from recycled yogurt cups. Once you are ready to dispose of it, simply send it back to the company where it will be recycled to make picnic tables. Go for a green toothpaste like Jason, Nature’s Gate, Kiss My Face, Desert Essence or Toms of Maine. Have you noticed that there aren’t any ingredients listed in toothpaste? At best, most toothpaste contain sweeteners, artificial flavoring, coloring and preservative. At worst, they contain all sorts of things like detergents, binding agents, Humectants, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, and all sorts of nasty chems. Turn the water off while you brush and shave to save 150 gallons of water per month. And make sure to fix leaky faucets. It may not make your Mondays any easier, but you can feel better about being kinder to the planet. Have a Happy (green) Weekend!
