Eddies update: I just got home from UHC at 8:00pm.When I walked in at 4:30, I thought they had been lying to me today. His face was swelled, his eyes were closed and I couldnt get him to talk or hold my hand or even look at me . I talked and talked and told him everybodys messages and no response. I was about ready to give up and I called Jessica to talk to her. She said he is stressed out to the limit. Anyhow, while I was talking to her, the lung Dr. came in with 3 nurses. I hung up, turned around and the Dr. was in Eddies face telling him he was taking everything away from him and he was on his own. He told nurses to pull out the vent and all hoses everywhere but IVs for infection. He told Eddie to breathe, breathe breath. Eddies eyes flew open and he started . Dr. told them to set him up straight. He started talking to the Dr. telling him he was trying. Dr. said, harder, harder. Nurse said, you do have a voice. Eddie asked for something cold to drink and the nurse had said nothing for 2 more days. The Dr. told her to get cup of ice, she brought back swab and was swabbing his mouth and Eddie said I want to set up. She said you are. He said, on side of bed. Dr. said ok but he had to do it by himself. He tried and tried and I wanted to help him and Dr. said, no he needs to get strength built up. He got himself turned around but gave up, was wore out.so the Dr. helped him. Let him rest a bit and turned to the nurse and said bring this man some food, now. She just looked at him and he said, go, go, go.Dr. talked to me for a minute, told me watch him that he didnt fall on his face and walked out. I asked Eddie why he talked to them and not to me and he said when did you come ? I told him I had been there over an hour talking to him. I had been there yesterday and he said I havent seen you til now. He asked what today was and I said Wednesday Oct. 1. You have been in here 4 days. He said, no, I went fishing this morning. I stayed and fed him because his fingers are swelled. He had a cup of beef broth and jello and 2 cups grape juice and a cup of new ice water. Then the infection Dr. came in and asked me 200 questions about Sunday at the lake. He is thinking about Eddie wearing the underwear from time he fell in till he was taken upstairs and admitted that evening and setting on it in squad and in ER with the sore place being exposed to all kinds of bacteria. Another lung Dr. came in and told me they think they have been getting lake water out of lungs once in awhile. He has never seen anything like it. The cultures take 72 hours which will be tomorrow but the antibiotics are working as the white cells # has come down 10 points since yesterday. They told me his worse day was yesterday, they did not think he would make it. Now he has turned around for the better side. He will be where he is at right now through the weekend into next week. Then whenever he is discharged , we have to set up for Home Health to come in to treat and change bandages at home because of being diabetic, I cant do it. When I left him the BP was 145 over 70. Respiration had went to 30 but was down to 21 to 24. He was breathing good but was wore out.
