Editorial: Migration!! A survey conducted by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies in Qatar revealed that 54% of Sudanese wish to emigrate out of the country. The study said out of those seeking to leave, 79% want to do so to improve living conditions, 5% for security reasons and 4% for political reason Sudan ranked the first among countries included in the report such as Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Mauritania, Palestine, Yemen, Kuwait and Libya. Most of the Sudanese respondents asked said they want to live in Saudi Arabia (20%), Qatar (10%) and United States (8%). According to Reuters, nearly 95,000 Sudanese left the country last year compared to only 10,032 in 2008, according to official data. Some analysts say the number is even higher because travel movements are hard to monitor. However, the figures represent an alarm to the concerned institutions in the government, considering that the tremendously growing numbers of migration seekers will affect negatively in the already deteriorated civil service in the country. The purpose of the study is to give the accurate indicators to enable the authorities to take the necessary measures to control the phenomena or at least organize it. It doesn’t work to belittle the phenomena by the concerned ministers and the government should immediately form a technical committee to study the report and submit its proposals to control the migration. As for the Secretariat of Sudanese Working Abroad Secretariat (SSWA), it seems that its officials are busy in things other than their main mission. The SSWA established a huge centre for migration studies equipped with the latest technology together with a - supposed to be - active website to serve the Sudanese working abroad and to conduct the surveys and assessments on the issue of migration. Unfortunately, we did not hear from the SSWA any comments about the above dangerous figures and its officials are only concerned about those who come on their annual leaves to collect from them their contribution. We urge the council of ministers to hold an emergency session to discuss the report and assign a team of experts to be participated by all concerned ministries in order to study the report and come out with viable recommendations to be applied immediately to rescue what can be saved before we regret it.
