Editorial for July/Aug 2013 My husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in June. We were not sure how to mark the occasion although a Gold Medal seemed appropriate. Anyway we decided to fulfil an ambition long held to travel to the top of Snowdon. We booked ourselves into a farm bed and breakfast and duly set off. It was a pleasant day for travelling and we stopped for lunch at Bala and for a ride on a miniature railway at Betws y Coed. Then disaster hit, we got lost. I couldn’t find the turning off the roundabout at Bangor and we headed off towards Holyhead. Eventually, I managed to get us to Llanberis and, after negotiating narrow country lanes and with the help of two local people, we arrived at the B&B. Our hostess made a cafetiere of fresh coffee which was very welcome. Unfortunately, the top came off and coffee went all over the Bara Brith and home-made biscuits and her beige carpet. We felt dreadful especially as she had provided a bottle of wine and a card and Welsh love spoon as anniversary presents. However, on the Monday, despite a bit of cloud, we had a lovely journey to the summit of Snowdon. We paid extra and travelled on a renovated Victorian carriage pulled by a steam train. It was so exciting to hear it puffing away as we climbed the steep inclines on our way to the top. At the summit, there was not much room with serious walkers and day trippers vying for a place. There was also a teddy bear that was being photographed by his owner and a baby in a sling. We had a welcome hot chocolate and, then, down for another train ride round the lake. A wonderful day!
