Edo to establish another University . Ekiadolor to be upgraded to Varsity of Education. By KEN ABU BENIN CITY – There are indications that the Edo State Government is on the verge of establishing a new state-owned university while the College of Education, Ekiadolor will be upgraded to a University of Education. This was contained in two Executive Bills sent to the State House of Assembly with a letter addressed to the Speaker and signed by Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere on behalf of the Governor. The letter dated March 24, 2014 and read by the Clerk of the House urged the House to consider a Bill for a Law to make provisions for the establishment of a University of Education at Ekiadolor and other matters connected therewith. The two Bills were given first reading following the suspension of the House Rules 20, 42 and 43 after the adoption of a motion moved by the Majority Leader Hon. Philip Shaibu and seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Emma Okoduwa. The motion called for the suspension of some sections of the House Rules in order to give prompt consideration to the Bills which were not listed in the days order paper. The Speaker Hon. Uyi Igbe directed the House Standing Committee on Rules, Business and Government House to slate for a second reading, the bill for a Law to make provisions for the establishment of a University of Education at Ekiadolor for the next plenary session while the second reading of the other bill be slated for a later date. Meanwhile, the Edo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources Hon. Abdul Oroh appeared before the House, explaining the modalities put in place by his ministry to checkmate the activities of cattle rearers in the state. Also at plenary, the Chairman, House Standing Committee on Works and Public Utilities, Hon. Sunday Osazewinde has presented the report with a seven-point findings and two point recommendation on the protest over the alleged abandonment of Ulemo Road to Ogba Bridge in Benin City.
