Education Advocate Update - today I as I followed he chain of command regarding my sons difficulty keeping up with all the pressures and stress of 6th grade math test prep, I had an appointment with the Amarillo High Cluster Director today. Both of my sons are in this particular cluster. I had never met her before because I have always taught in the Palo Duro Cluster or the Tascosa Cluster. The meeting went very well. I had examples of my sons work and I told her of the struggles and teacher bullying that has gone on since August. However, I made it clear to her that I speak NOT ONLY on behalf of my own children but all the children in the Amarillo High Cluster, the children of Amarillo ISD, the children of Texas and the children of American. She took 6 full pages of notes that she will take to the Amarillo ISD Superintendent and she said he would probably contact me. I told her I was NOT asking for permission to OPT Out because I know there is no permission to be given, however drastic measures must be taken at times of emotional abuse. I did tell her I plan to Opt Out both of my children and I am prepared to take legal action if any problems arise (even the one who is commended on all test will Opt Out) I also told her I DO NOT want my 6th grader to attend his math class again until the testing prep and test is over!!! I made it clear that our children are being denied a quality education because of a political corrupt system. The meeting lasted almost 2 hours. At the end she asked me what I wanted her to do? I said the main action that MUST be taken is administrators MUST take the pressure off the teachers. I begged her to please spread the word to all the higher up administration that this emotional abuse has to stop THIS YEAR. I ask her to persuade all administration to speak the truth and stop this corrupt political process that is killing quality education. I told her it was unacceptable for professional educators (teachers) to hide their true feelings out of fear of getting in trouble and risking their jobs if they speak the truth. She was very appreciative of my visit and she agreed with everything I said. I was told to expect a call from the Amarillo ISD Superintendent. I would like to encourage all teachers to go through the chain of command; Principal, Cluster Director and Superintendent in order for change to happen. They NEED to hear from you. They AGREE with you. We are the professionals allowing the opposite of what we know is right to happen daily in the classroom. What if Doctors acted like teachers? It is up to US. Have faith......you will not get in trouble.....you will be BLESSED.
