Education Minister condemns the abduction of female students from Borno School The Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has condemned the abduction of female students of a secondary school in Chibok, Borno State, describing the action of the terrorists as barbaric and ungodly. The Minister observed that the action of the terrorists is following a growing trend of terrorists hitting soft targets, which the Federal Government is aware of and has been doing everything possible to protect Women, Children and other vulnerable groups including schools. He noted that the security team attached to that particular institution was overwhelmed and in the process a soldier and a policeman paid the ultimate sacrifice. He said before re-inforcement could come, the terrorists had taken off with young girls, the number of which is yet to be determined. The Minister stated that the Ministry is in touch with relevant security agencies to work out the rescue of the abducted children and to provide tighter security in all educational institutions in the region. He added that the nation will not succumb to the plots by terrorists to deny children their right to education. Barr. Wike said that the government feels for the families of the abducted girls over their anxiety for the safety of their children, stressing that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure that the children come to no harm and are re-united with their families.
