Edwards to Leave Roush Fenway Racing Todd Ridgeway Area Auto Racing News July 27, 2014 INDIANAPOLIS (IN) – What had been rumored throughout the NASCAR garage area in the recent weeks and speculated throughout the media became official race day mourning at Indianapolis for Roush Fenway Racing driver Carl Edwards. Edwards will not return next year to Roush Fenway Racing. The Sunday morning Roush Racing press release stated that Edwards will not be with the team going forward in 2015. Says Jack Roush, “I will always be thankful for Carl’s contribution and the role he played in many Roush Fenway wins and championships. We wish him well for the future. In the meantime, we are excited about continuing our quest for a championship with Carl and the No. 99 team in 2014. He’s one of the drivers who have come to our program initially: we have had 48 drivers in 27 ½ years that have driven our cars. He along with Mark Martin, Matt Kenseth, and Greg Biffle has certainly left his mark. We made him an offer. There’s curiosity about what another team’s situation would look like and I think that although I shouldn’t speculate, I think Carl wanted to try something different before he saw his career get in its middle term and its final years. Our hopes were to keep him and we were not successful with that. It’s just a reality of the business we’re in. I have no emotion either way on that,” finished Roush Edwards spoke Sunday morning in the Indy garage area before the start of the Crown Royal Presents the John Wayne Walding 400 at the Brickyard.“ There is a lot going on here. There are so many moving parts. This was the right time for Roush Fenway to talk about their plans for next year. For me, the right time to talk about exactly what I’m doing next year is the same thing, we will announce everything as soon as possible, but today is about racing,” finished Edwards. Jack Roush did confirm Roush Fenway Racing plans for 2015. Greg Biffle and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will return. Trevor Bayne will be moving over to Roush’s operation in the Cup Series from the Nationwide Series next year to drive the No. 6 Ford.
