Egypt has sealed off its crossing with Gaza Strip for five days. Egyptian officials have allegedly closed their border with Gaza for Eid al-Adha holidays. But Egypts crossings with Israel will remain open during that time. The Rafah passenger terminal which is Gaza’s only gateway to the outside world bypassing Israel has been closed since Saturday as Eid Al Adha or the or Feast of Sacrifice observance began in Palestine. The move has only made the humanitarian situation in the blockade coastal enclave worse as Rafah crossing has been operating only partially for around eight years. Despite the recent brokered truce that ended the Fifty Day Israeli war on Gaza, Palestinians continue to live under harsh circumstances. But that’s not the end of story. What makes matters worse for thousands of stranded Gazans is the illegal fees Gazans have to pay if they want to leave the blockade coastal through the Egyptian crossing. Egyptian border control officers only allow Gazans to leave the blockaded territory after paying a hefty price.In some cases, officers demand bribes of up to three thousand US dollars to facilitate the trip out of Gaza.Here is an eyewitness account of such incident. Gazans say their never ending suffering is largely to blame on some Arab regimes who continue to turn a blind eye to their misery. Shell-shocked Gazans continue to suffer due to the closure of Rafah crossing by the Egyptian authorities. Experts say Egypt has been helping Israel in maintaining the blockade of Gaza.
