Eid. As I stirred the white sauce for the lasagne (a tradition at Eid in our home), I thought of people of Gaza who are sitting homeless in UN schools turned shelters. What was usually on their Eid menu? What were they going to wear? Where were they going to pray their Eid Salaah? As my mum washed dishes and checked on the porterhouse steak Ive put to cook on the hot plate; I noticed the signs of age on her hands and I thought of the wrinkled old women of Gaza - Im sure theyre not washing dishes or opening pots today in preparation for Eid. As my dad excitedly brought in plastic tables and chairs from outside to accommodate our guests, I thought of the fathers of Gaza carrying their dead with those wild looks of loss in their eyes. And as my son came to the kitchen and lamented I wish it were tomorrow - maybe Allah will prove everyone wrong and it will be tomorrow, I thought of the children of Gaza; lying lifeless under the ground, or clinging scared and confused to the mothers and fathers of Gaza. My name is Fatima Asmal, Im from Durban in South Africa and #ISupportGaza
