Eight pound, 1 year old Benji sits in a cramped crate at Manhattan ACC because his owner of 2 months complained that Benji bit him. So are all of you Chi lovers out there saying to yourself—he’s a Chi and he’s small and you have to know how to handle those little guys! Upon further explanation, he says that Benji apparently didn’t like it when his owner tried to put a collar on him. Fast forward to Benji’s behavioral eval and one starts seeing the true Benji—the one who’s scared and who will “fight for his life” if he feels threatened (like any good Chi). First off, the assessor describes Benji as “shy, nervous and trembled during handling, but had soft body language…”. And then guess what, Benji pulled off all 1’s and 2’s on his assessment including the squeeze, tag, the look and as important the dog on dog. This little guy is a gem but needs to end up in the right hands. He might not be the best for a home with young children as many Chis become very afraid of toddlers coming at them. But in the hands of an experienced Chi person, this guy will bring those smiles and joy that only a great Chi like Benji can bring. Are you the person who understands exactly what Benji is trying to say to everybody? If you are, step up to foster or adopt Benji. But do it now—tomorrow, Benji will go trembling down that hallway, scared out of his mind, and be gone without ever knowing love and peace.
