Eileen Baecher, President of the BOE, refutes misinformation about Geo-turf. "A Geo-turf field is recyclable – the infill can be spread as mulch or composted and the grass blade mat can be recycled. Recycling of synthetic fields is a rapidly developing business, and the mats, while they contain recyclable material, have generally been repurposed (as has been done at schools like Bowdoin) or ended up as waste, depending on how they were handled. However, because the Geo-turf infill does not contaminate the grass blades, their grass can be processed by an industrial recycling partner with the technology and the capacity to grind and melt the mat into pellets to be molded it into different consumer products. Furthermore, the company is willing to guaranty the removal and repurposing of the turf upon replacement."
