For, on October 15, 1987, Sankara was ambushed and brutally killed by soldiers as he prepared to go for afternoon games. Along with him twelve of his closest advisors, and about one hundred others lost their lives in the carnage that day. It was Burkinas fifth military coup since 1966, and one of the Africas bloodiest.
