Eket Development Congress, USA Inc. P. O. Box 540106, Houston, TX 77254 A Non-Profit Organization [email protected] 832.969.3315 Press Release!!!! On behalf of the Board of Trustees and Executive Council of Eket Development Congress (EDC) USA Inc., we express our unreserved gratitude to His Excellency, Gov. Godswill Akpabio, for his foresight and thoughtfulness in nominating an exemplary public servant, Sir (Barr.) Bassey Dan Abia, KJW, for the position of Managing Director of the NDDC. We commend His Excellency, President Goodluck Jonathan, for accepting the nomination and so appointing him. And we salute the Nigerian Senate for expeditiously confirming his appointment to the position. Sir (Barr.) Bassey Dan Abia, KJW, is a man of impeccable credentials so equipped to lead the NDDC at a challenging time like this. Always meticulous in the discharge of his duties, Sir Dan Abia is endowed with vital leadership competencies to deliver on the statutory mandate of the NDDC to develop the region. He is unassuming and humble to the core with unimpeachable character and temperament to superintend over the affairs of the NDDC as its Managing Director. It is imperative to note that a seasoned and pragmatic leadership is indispensable at the helms of the intervention commission at this critical time of its existence. Efficacious leadership of the NDDC is critical to anchoring the socioeconomic development and structural change in the Niger Delta Region. The citizens of the region are yearning for critical infrastructural development prioritization to reinforce synergies and launch the region in the path toward authentic sustainability. Few would match the sterling qualities and qualifications of Sir (Barr.) Abia for the position. A competent public servant extraordinaire, he was the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice during the Gov. Attah administration, and was so reappointed during the first term of the Gov. Akpabio administration. He has also held the portfolio of Commissioner for Transport before he was reassigned to his current position in the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing. Sir (Barr.) Abia had previously served briefly as the Chairman of NDDC, and later as its Commissioner. Records would show that for the short period he served on the board of NDDC, the number of projects he implemented was unprecedented. Sir (Barr.) Abia does not boast about his official status; he demurs at ostentation; and does not consider public service as an avenue for self-glorification. Rather, he sees it as an opportunity to serve the people and a privilege to make a difference. He believes in the biblical canon that to whom much is given, much is expected. Whether in official or private capacity, he has touched lives in positive ways. The ability to identify star performers is one of the leadership trademarks of HE (Dr.) Gov. Akpabio. This has been the secret of his unprecedented success: putting the best and capable hands at the wheels of the uncommon transformation. Gov. Akpabio knew this too well when he nominated Sir (Barr.) Abia for the position. Successive federal governments have not given our state commensurate consideration relative to its significant contributions to the federal revenue. Consequently, the state suffers from sheer neglect and marginalization in locating federal projects. At the helms of the NDDC, we believe that Sir (Barr.) Abia will consider targeted federal presence in terms of strategic infrastructural projects to complement the gargantuan accomplishments of this administration under the leadership of Gov. Akpabio. Signed: Mr. Chris Oduok, MBA Dr. Victor Itauma National President National Secretary
