Ekiti Decides: Fayemi awards N9.3bn Ikere/Ondo road dualisation Ekiti State Government has approved the contract for the construction and dualisation of the Ikere-Ondo State boundary road at a cost of N9.3 billion. Information Commissioner, Mr Tayo Ekundayo, said the contract, which was awarded to China Railway and Engineering Company Nigeria Limited, CRECNL, would be largely self-financing, and is expected to be completed in 24 months. Ekundayo made this known at the end of the weekly State Executive Council meeting. He said the state government would pay 15 per cent of the contract sum to the contractor as advance payment, while the remaining 85 per cent would be funded by the contractor. He said the contractors had already mobilised to site, following flag-off of the dualisation project a fortnight ago. Ekundayo said that when completed, the road would enhance vehicular movement and ease congestion along the busy Ado-Ikere -Akure road. According to him, the Ekiti State Government hopes its Ondo State counterpart will do its portion of the road without delay. The commissioner said that State Executive Council had also approved the award of the contract for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the 30.2 kilometer Agbado-Ode- Isinbode-Omuo road to Messrs Prodeals Nigeria Limited, MPNL, at a cost of N2.9 billion, while the contract for the reconstruction of the 14.8 kilometer Awo-Eyio Esure- Ifaki Road was also awarded to the same contractor at a cost of N1.7 billion. He said approval had also been given for the re-award of the contract for the construction of Oye-Are road to Mac Engineering Construction Limited, MECL, at a cost of N840 million, adding that the project was expected to be completed within nine months.
