Ekiti Elders Show Support For Fayose’s Stomach Infrastructure In what appears like a tacit support for the “Stomach Infrastructure” agenda of the new governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, the Ekiti Council of Elders has charged him to address welfare of the Ekiti citizenry and embark on projects that would have immediate value on the lives of the citizens. The senior citizens, in a communiqué made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti after their ordinary session, urged the new administration to address urgently the welfare of the people of the state, saying “we recommend that the little resources available to government should be spent on projects that have immediate value on the populace.” In the communiqué signed by Chief Deji Fasuan, Professor Tunde Oluwasanmi and Chief Ade Akilaya on behalf of Ekiti Council of Elders, they said: “We want to advise the new administration to address as quickly as possible the welfare of citizens, especially as it relates to unpaid salaries, wages and other benefits which have a multiplier effect on the local economy.” The Ekiti elders also charged the Fayose administration to increase effort at enhancing internally-gene rated revenue in the state, saying “deliberate effort should now be made to reduce emphasis on capital projects that have long gestation period before the benefit can reach our people.” While congratulating Ekiti people at home and in Diaspora for the transition to a newmgovernment, the elders noted that “it appears Ekiti people have no tolerance for projects that have no immediate value to their lives.” The elders, while noting that “some progress have been made on IGR in the last two years,” said it was “still abysmally low compared to other political units in Nigeria,” and therefore urged the government to step up efforts to bring radical improvement in this area. They expressed the hope that politicians, irrespective of their leanings would sustain the relative peace being enjoyed after the June 21 Governorship election, leading to the emergence of the present government on October 16. “Ekiti needs peace for necessary development. By all means we will continue to belong to different political persuasions, but Ekiti, our land of Honour and Fountain of Knowledge should progress and develop peacefully for the benefit of all.”
