Elandskop koppie or hill in Petrus Steyn, Free State is in danger!! This hill was an important heliograph station used by both the Boers and Brits during the ABW. It was later made more famous by the Boer General CR De Wet when he eluded the drives or sweeps by the British troops. One could see as far as Vereeniging district surrounding hills from this hilltop at that time. Even today the stone walls which were arranged during the war are still untouched! This hill has recently been nominated to become a Provincial or Local Heritage Site. HELP US SAVE THIS HILL. 1 Like = ( The responsible contractor must stop the mining activities, rehabilitate the mined area and fence the whole place as a fine!!!) This is going to be followed by a lawsuit...watch the space. Its high time we take protect our heritage, environment and culture!!
