Election Day at Steamboat Chapter House By Shondiin Silversmith (@DiinSilversmith) Navajo Times STEAMBOAT, ARIZ. - With primary elections underway all across the Navajo Nation many Navajo communities are executing their right to vote at their local Chapter House. In the western agency Steamboat Chapter has 1150 registered voters and has seen a steady stream of them come into vote for either the Navajo Nation or Apache County. There at over 45,000 people registered to vote in Apache County, according to officials at Steamboat Chapter. For local voter Roselyn Barney along with her parents, coming to the chapter house has been a tradition for their family every four years. We always vote every four years and for them (her parents) its a good time for them to see there friends and relatives they never see, Barney said, adding that they chose to vote because they believe it helps the Navajo Nation. But not everyone has a voting tradition in fact for local Rita Kee she hasnt voted since Peterson Zah ran for presidency. Her reasoning was she just never re registered to vote when she moved away from Steamboat several years ago. But now Kee said she was happy to cast a vote today because she likes it. I dont know which one is going to win, but I dont mind, Kee added, noting that she only knew who a few of the candidates were.
