Election day in Mauritius. Yesterday on the way to the beach we - TopicsExpress

Election day in Mauritius. Yesterday on the way to the beach we noticed police everywhere. Also the army were out in force. The reason was the day before the election the main parties have convoys that travel all the way around Mauritius. At the beached we watched the convoy of the ruling Labour Party, in alliance now with the main opposition, the MMM (Movement of Militant Mauritians). Then whilst they were passing, the main opposition to this coalition, the MSM (Mauritian Socialist Movement), their convey come in the other direction. There was much fist-shaking & shouting; much like rival football fans. With the convoys taking almost half a hour to past, clearly if trouble started they may well have needed army intervention. All these parties, despite their socialist names, are very much in league with the capitalist class. Only Lalit (the struggle) offers a working class alternative.
