HISTORY AND CULTURE Patigi people migrated from the present Bida Emirate as a result of Islamic jihadist attacks of the 18th Century. The then ruler of Bida Emirate, Etsu Muazu Jimada refused to succumb to the overbearing rule of Islamic Jihadist led by Shehu Usman Dan-Fodio and thereafter migrated with his people across River Niger with small boats. They strategically settled in an area surrounded by mountainous as fortress and that is where the namePatigi is derived, mountain in Nupe language is “Patigi”. The Patigi people are custodians of ancient Nupe tradition and culture. Patigi traditional dances include Gugu – Eyagi (Masquarades’ dance); Ndako Gboya (Masquarades’ dance); and Angale Dance (Traditional Dance). The Traditional Ruler of the Patigi Emirate is His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Chatta Umar, Etsu Of Patigi and Vice Chariman, Kwara State Council Of Chiefs
