Election season being mostly over has allowed me to get caught up - TopicsExpress

Election season being mostly over has allowed me to get caught up on a variety of personal items. The first item on my list was to clean up the mess my dog had made over the last couple weeks in the carport and front yard. She had started chewing on everything in sight - and there was a lot in sight. The problem ended up being a LOT worse than I thought. I had an old couch under the carport left by my former roommate that Sadie likes to sleep on - two of the cushions had been ripped to shreds, with the fluff all over the front yard. Couch - gone. My weedeater had every exposed wire and anything of importance chewed to pieces - gone. My hose had been chewed apart... three times - gone. This was all frustrating enough, but then I found an Amazon box while cleaning up my porch that contained $70 in electronics that had arrived that morning or the day before - destroyed. All this, along with a few other odds and ends, has added up to around or over $300 in property damage in the last two weeks alone. My dilemma: Sadie has never been confined, not in the slightest - ever. Shes never even had a collar on before, much less a leash, wire, or fence. Unfortunately however, in order to keep her, she is going to have to be confined to prevent property damage. Fortunately, the stuff damaged was mine - I live on a rental property, so it could have been worse. So today, thanks to a friend from church, I got to learn how to make a dog run! Materials for good quality construction cost me around $40 - not a huge price to pay in light of the $300 in damages. I only wish Id done so sooner. Unfortunately, she HATES it. She currently stretches her wire as far as it will go and lies down on the ground and either whines or looks at me, begging me to let her loose - its pretty sad. This is no surprise though. Both lines are plenty long, I bought 100 ft of wire, so shell enjoy it... eventually. This is a temporary solution until I can build a fence. Im also looking to buy a nice wooden dog house for her, so I dont have to bring her under the carport every time it rains - which, dont worry, I am going to be doing until that problem is solved. Next few items on my list include: Turning my former roommates bedroom into an office/creative space. Pressure washing the driveway. Deep cleaning/repairing/rearranging the house. Going to yard sales to find good cheap furniture (this is my favorite part). And much more. I know this sounds mundane to most people, but I am enjoying the heck out of the little things right now. After working absolutely insane hours (often 80+ hours a week) for three straight months and moderately insane hours for most of the year, almost without a single day completely off, Im looking forward to relaxing and being normal for a little while, while I wrap up the leftover work in this cycle, spend time with family on the holidays, and get ready to move on to bigger and better (and hopefully less stressful) things.
