Electricity overload to break last year’s record IIK:Electricity overload is expected to break last year’s all-time record of 11,800 megawatts next week as temperatures exceed the 50 C degrees mark according to Meteorological Department, a local daily reported yesterday quoting Ministry of Electricity and Water insiders. According to Al-Rai daily, the ministry is prepared to face increased consumption rates given a daily production capacity of 13,000 megawatts. Daily added that the overload puts power transformers at higher risks of breakdown which might affect the quality of service. “Emergency centers have instructions to deal with blackouts during Ramadan as soon and as quickly as possible,” they added.
