Eleventh Science Awareness Conference in Rural India December - TopicsExpress

Eleventh Science Awareness Conference in Rural India December 27-29, 2014 Vashisthnagar, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh Over the years, we have campaigned for rural Science and Technology (S&T) awareness starting from December 1988 by organizing small gatherings of people to discuss topics relating to rural problems. These smaller and consistent efforts finally resulted in organizing a scientific meeting in the year 2004 (Science Awareness Year: Government of India) when we with like minded colleagues founded Vigyan Jagrukta Samiti (Science Awareness Committee), a non-profit organization in Lucknow. This committee in close association with other socially aware organizations assembled meager resources, planned and organized the first-of- a-kind conference in the World that was convened under a Peepal Tree (Ficus religiosa). This unique conference made efforts to engage the common man in rural India and examined ways to promote S&T awareness in a historically marginalized community. Encouragements from Drs. APJ Abdul Kalam (Ex-President of India), Lalji Singh (Center of Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad), Mangala Rai (Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi), Gyan Chandra Mishra (National Center for Cell Sciences, Pune), Professor Yashpal (Ex-Chairman, University Grant Commission, India and eminent National Scientist), Dr. S. N. Subba Rao and numerous science professionals and sociasl reformers of Indian subcontinent went a long way to sustain the enthusiasm. The S&T awareness campaign is very much in line with the goals of the Prime Minister of India who favors the Village Development as a key to Nation Development.
