Eli Vs Bozo - From the 1970 January February Pit Dog report - Fourth match Junior vs. Jack Smith Males at 37 ½ lbs. Cajun Rules, Floyd Boudreaux, Referee Dogs meet in the center with the black dog, Eli, that Jr. is using going for the chest. Jack Smith lost to this same dog before when Eli went into the Jack’s dog’s shoulder, bit him badly and Jack’s dog was not able to scratch. Jack is using a red dog named Bozo. Dogs fight fast with Eli going for the chest and Jack’s red getting him out with the nose and cheek holds. Neither dog seems to be biting hard but are fighting fast—throwing one, then the other. Eli is the more aggressive dog with Jack’s dog trying to hold him out. At 30 minutes a turn is called on Eli and he runs to his corner—someone had called him. It looked like Jr. was going to faint when Eli turned and ran. Eli makes a good scratch and Jack’s red goes down. Eli working him over in his corner. Both dogs are tiring and fast—it is getting hot. Dogs fight in this pattern for the next 5 minutes with Eli top dog. At 57 minutes, a pick up with the red dog to go. He takes the count down in his corner. This is a short report because I failed to record at the match and this must be written from memory. Jack Smith is a true sport—coming the distance from a cold climate. It is hard for a dog to show his real ability when he gets hot and winded. Eli has shown us before that he is a good dog but in this match, he did not look like the same dog. In the winter, I’m sure, both of these dogs would look much better.
