Ellen Whites prophetic gift in question: Joseph Bates, the running mate of the Whites witnessed several visions of Ellen White, however he didnt believe she had the prophetic gift. Until one day she receives a vision and communicates to him something that happened on one of his sea voyages (he was an ex-seaman), and there was no possible way she could have known. From there he became a believer. So heres my question. How could Joseph Bates, one of the main pillars of the SDA church be with the Whites, doing bible study together, traveling together and coming up with doctrines together but not believe that Mrs. White had the gift of prophecy? Well, its quite simple, he just didnt believe. Does it mean he didnt believe in God? Of course not because he was definitely pushing the gospel forward. It just took him time and a personal experience for him to believe that Ellen had the gift. All that to say, please, lets not beat people who dont believe in Ellen white as a prophet over the head, trying to force them to believe. Also, just because they dont believe doesnt mean they wont be saved. Heres the key, is that person sincerely seeking truth? Are they a student of Gods Word? If they are they will-- like Mr. Bates-- come to the conclusion that the revelations and instructions that Mrs. White received lines up perfectly with Bible truth. If their face is in the Good Book and they are praying earnestly they will be alright (Only by Gods grace of course). #SDAHistory #MeetingEGW
