Elohim: a clue to the Trinity mystery The first name for God used - TopicsExpress

Elohim: a clue to the Trinity mystery The first name for God used in the Bible is the Hebrew title Elohim: In the beginning God [Elohim] created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). A few verses later the creation account add these verses: Then God [Elohim] said, Let us make man in our image, in our likeness...So God [Elohim] created man in his own image (Genesis 1:26-27). Based on these (and more than 2,500 other usages), the name Elohim indicates the power and creative activity of God. The name may stem from either a Hebrew word meaning the strong One, or from a similar root word meaning fear. So whats the point? Simpy this: Such an awesome Creator deserves our respect, not our scorn! The term Elohim is plural. Some scholars believe the plural form is an attempt to express in grammatical fashion the truth that Gods greatness and majesty put Him in a class all by Himself. Others argue that the plural form implies that God is a Trinity. Question: Which view is correct? Answer : Both view points are credible. Elohim is used in passages that suggest Gods singular essence. It is also used in passages that hint at the truth of the Trinity.... He is in a class all by Himself ELOHIM what else can i say....
