Business Analyst Description Gather and articulates user needs and requirements that form the basis for technological solutions that will benefit the users and assist the developers to create the solution. Identify tasks users want to perform and the requirements that a solution must meet to allow users to perform these tasks. Create initial documentation that forms the deliverables for software development initiative, provide sufficient detail for developers to write technical requirements, enable Quality Assurance teams to employ best practices in testing, and initiate discussions on user training and rollout strategies. Responsibilities Elicit use cases and requirements using interviews, document analysis, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, and task/workflow analysis. Analyze needs and deliver the following artifacts as needed: Project Vision (business requirements plus use case model and supporting information), functional requirements, non-functional requirements, performance metrics, and use cases. Engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously. Work with users to define concepts, generally with project managers Liaise with User Experience Designers and identify opportunities for them to engage in initiatives. Demonstrate strong analytical and product management skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements. Interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts. Serve as the conduit between the customer community (internal and external customers) and the software development team through which requirements flow. Develop requirements specifications according to standard templates, using natural language. Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs. Be aware of the OIT software portfolio, ongoing initiatives, and the capacity of current applications and systems in order to prioritize and synthesize incoming requirements from stakeholders. Identify opportunities for procedural improvement through the development or enhancement of solutions in the OIT portfolio. Request intervention from User Experience Designers when their services can help articulate user and project needs. Requirements Bachelor’s Degree Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a business analyst, technology project manager (with significant business analysis tasks), especially in an Agile software development paradigm. Skills Successful experience with the development of business requirements, functional requirements, and use cases. Ability to interact successfully with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders. Advanced abilities with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint) Experience with issue tracking tools (e.g. Jira, HP Quality Center). Familiarity with ERDs or other representations of complex data structures. Sit for an extended period of time, continuous repetitive motion, frequent typing, and some lifting of up to 15 pounds. See and read PC monitor along with fine and normal size print. Organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology. Express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken and written word; compose, edit, and proof materials such as complex and comprehensive reports, work related manuals, and publications for wide release and/or make formal presentations.
