Email sent to PSNN about Korsten Traffic Department: Prior to this morning we have never experienced corruption but today was the pits. We arrived at the traffic department at 6am knowing that we would have have to queue but at least the early bird captures the worm. We were 16th in the row but knew the people before us deserved their spot as they were there first. But low and behold then the action started. As people arrived they were awaited by chaperones offering them a space in the front of the row depending on the spot they chose prices varied from R150 to R50. This whole thing is apparently a very lucrative business. The runners are white black and coloured people so there it is not a racist situation. They are so organized even walk around with clipboards and organize everyone. A white gentleman who most of the runners call Oom Johan is one of the main guys. He walks up and down and checks on it all the time. The statement they all make is that they arrive at about 4.30am and stand in line and when prospective customers arrive who are willing to pay they then exchange their spot. Yet when they are replaced they still leave a bag or a brick to secure the next place behind or in front of the one they have just sold By 8am we were approx 30th in line. All because we were not willing to be bribed for a better place. Do these business people pay tax on their business and what about all the innocent people who stand and wait their turn IS IT FAIR. Why has nobody ever tried to bring an end to this as it has been going on for a very long time. Just had to get this off my chest. V de Lange. Public Servant News Network Port Elizabeth: Very interesting. I think that if they did not keep their place (i.e. You stayed number 16) then it should be legal. Any newspaper wanting to use this story should please email me on PublicServant247@gmail for permission. Thanks. *Public Servant*
