Embezzlement: Court Discharges Former Minister Of Works, Hassan Lawal And 9 others A Federal High Court in Abuja has discharged former minister of works, Hassan Lawal and nine others on charges of embezzlement of N6.4 billion counterpart funding of the N24 billion Guto-Bagana bridge project. Justice Ahmed Mohammed in his judgment on Thursday, discharged the accused persons on all the 46 count charge they had been facing since 2011, following an application by the EFCC to discontinue the case. Counsels to the accused persons, Samson Ameh did not object to the request by the EFCC lawyer to discontinue the case. Justice Mohammed in a short ruling said the court had no power to acquit the accused persons since they have not been arraigned before him and the case had not been heard on its merit. The matter, which was stated, to start afresh on Thursday before Justice Mohammed had previously been handed by Justice Ishaq Bello who retired last year. The People of my home town are still paying the prices of some corrupt activities of this man during his time as minister when the federal government awarded contract for the construction of Maiduguri-Bama road and Bama-Banki roads which was abundant as a result of syphoned of the contract sum by this man.
